What kind of research does the lab do?

What kind of research does the lab do?
Babies aged from about 3 to 10 months and their parents/guardians are asked to cooperate as baby researchers to carry out various surveys according to their age.
In addition to research on the child, we may also ask parents to record their child’s voice.
The content of the surveys varies depending on the time of year and the age of the child, but some of the surveys we have carried out so far include the following

Developmental Test

Use toys such as rattles to examine the level of development.

Brain Function Research

Optical topography (NIRS) and electroencephalography (EEG) are used to study brain activity when people hear words and sounds and see images.

Eye Camera

Examine the baby’s gaze without having the baby wear glasses or anything else. For example, investigate where the baby looks at a person’s face.

Preference and Attention Survey

Examine the baby’s image and sound preferences by studying the duration of gazing at pictures and drawings on the monitor screen.

Behavioural Survey

Video is taken of the baby during playtime and other activities, and the baby’s behaviour patterns are analysed.

Questionnaire Survey

You will be asked to answer questions about your child’s language development and everyday life.

Rehabilitation Intervention Research

Research is being conducted to identify ways to promote the development of communication in children.

・The second and subsequent sessions take approximately one hour or less. The survey is carried out while observing the child’s condition and condition, so it may take a little longer or be completed earlier.

About the Number of Times

Depending on the age of your child, you may be asked to come more than once. Once the survey has been decided, we will ask you about your availability for each visit, so please make it easy for us to fit it into your schedule.

In addition to baby researchers recruited from the general public, follow-up investigations are carried out on children whose brain function investigations were carried out at Keio Hospital during their neonatal period, and their development is regularly investigated and confirmed in various aspects.
